The Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program (DAFGP) provides grants to increase access to full spectrum doula services for Indigenous families residing in BC (on and off reserve).
Doulas can provide support to people during the full spectrum of pregnancy and beyond – from conception, to miscarriages, stillbirths, abortion, births, the postnatal period, and everything in between.
The grant program provides Indigenous families living in BC up to $1,200.00 (maximum) of coverage for full spectrum doula support with each pregnancy.
To apply for the doula grant, please complete the Family application form by first entering in your doula’s email address and your own, where prompted. If you do not have a doula, you will need to find one before starting on the application.
Find a doula registered with the DAFGP through our Doula Finder; or ask your doula to register with the DAFGP. Doulas must be registered before the Family Registration Form can be processed.
Each family is encouraged to look for a doula that best fits their unique needs, this may involve contacting multiple doulas before deciding. See Family Resources for help finding the right doula for your family.
With your DAFGP registered doula, fill out the Family Application Form. As part of the form, a breakdown of the estimated budget is required to help you plan your doula care and gain clarity on the services provided.
Once your portion is complete, it will be sent to your doula to complete their portion (Pg 2 and a signature on Pg 5). Once your doula completes and submits the form, you will receive a copy via email. This email will be titled “DAFGP_FamilyApplication has been signed“, this indicates that your form has been submitted to the DAFGP team for processing.
Please allow up to two (2) weeks for processing. Doulas should wait for approval prior to delivering services.
*If more than one doulas’ services are being utilized, each doula should submit a separate estimated budget (Pg.2) for their services. The maximum total coverage of $1,200.00 per pregnancy still applies if more than one doulas’ services are used.

Following all doula services, your doula will submit a DAFGP Invoice and (optional) support story by entering in their email address along with the families email below.
*Please note: The DAFGP requires that Invoices are submitted within two weeks of completing services.
Once the doula has filled in their portion of the DAFGP Invoice, it will be emailed to the family to confirm services are complete with a digital signature.
Once the family reviews and signs the DAFGP invoice, it will be both emailed back to the doula to show it has submitted for processing and to the DAFGP team to review and either make up a cheque to be mailed directly to the doula, OR an automatic funds transfer (AFT).
Therefore, families will not be required to make any financial payments for the services included in their the DAFGP invoice (maximum $1200) as we will provide the payment directly to your doula.
For doulas that would like to be set up with AFT payments, please complete this form and email to: financeassist@bcaafc.com along with a void cheque attached.
*If more than one doulas’ services are being utilized, each doula should submit a separate invoice for their services respectvely. The maximum total coverage of $1,200.00 per pregnancy still applies if more than one doulas’ services are used.
