Located within the territory of WSÁNEĆ (Saanich), Lkwungen (Songhees) and Wyomilth (Esquimalt) peoples, the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres (BCAAFC) is the umbrella association for the 25 Friendship Centres throughout the Province of British Columbia. The BCAAFC collaboratively works to promote and deliver accessible programs and services that target urban Indigenous peoples and that support their vision of health and wellness.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized, friendly, customer service-oriented individual to join our events team. Each year the BCAAFC welcomes over 1000 young people to Gathering Our Voices (GOV) Indigenous Youth Leadership conference. As Registration Coordinator you will be a key point of contact for our delegates, while also making sure that their registration information is complete so that the GOV team is ready to welcome them to the event.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys working with people
  • Is comfortable answering questions, and asking questions
  • Loves to organize information and build information systems
  • Believes that how we welcome people to the event is as important as the event itself
  • Is committed to creating a safe, enriching, and empowering space for Indigenous youth
  • Has worked with Indigenous communities and organizations, and understands how to work within cultural protocols
  • Has a proven ability to maintain a calm and friendly demeanor in busy environments
  • Is comfortable using computers, database systems, and speaking on the phone
  • Works well as a member of a team, and in particular likes being a conduit of information to team members
  • Is comfortable working with large groups of people
  • Comfortable making in-the-moment decisions

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years experience in hospitality and customer service, recreation, or event sector managing information and helping people.
  • Must be able to provide clear, current criminal record check including vulnerable sector check.
  • Ability to do overtime, and travel (within BC) as required.
  • Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous applicants. Ensure your cover letter self-identifies ancestry and your experience meeting required skills and abilities.

Position Information:

  • The place of work is 551 Chatham Street; a hybrid model of up to 2 days from home may be considered. The BCAAFC is an accessible space including ground floor workspaces, elevator and accessible workstations.
  • The selected individual and must have a stable internet connection and telephone/cell-phone. IT services and laptop will be supplied.
  • The workweek is 35 hours, some overtime and travel will be required, particularly in the days leading up to, and during, the event.
  • Proof of COVID vaccination will be a requirement for the successful candidate.

The compensation package includes:

  • Three weeks paid vacation (plus additional time off in late December for office closure)
  • Employee health benefits plan, upon completion of 3 month probation period
  • $55,000 – $60,000 starting salary based on experience.
  • RRSP matching of up to 8% of annual salary to a max of $8,000 per year
  • Monthly wellness fund
