Hours: 25-30 hours per week- Immediate work
Wage: $19.00 per hr (based on experience)

Nature of Position: As part of the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society Team, the Kitchen Coordinator will cook, keep kitchen up to code as per food safety regulations.  This person will coordinate meals and community kitchen with support of other programs.  We require someone who is knowledgeable, creative, highly task committed, highly motivated and can work well independently and with staff teams.

Duties:

  • Menu planning according to Canada’s Food Guide, with ability to read labels/recipes that fit accordingly
  • Assist in the planning of special events/catering services
  • Good understanding of food ordering with specified service provider
  • Conduct weekly kitchen maintenance inspection to insure kitchen is within operation standards
  • On special occasions be prepared to do weekly shopping, bulk food shopping and kitchen supplies
  • Keep track and record all volunteer hours as required
  • Ensure that all budgeting is kept up to-date and accurate i.e. Cash and receipts are to be returned accounting
  • Requests for any special kitchen cleaning/maintenance/repairs when required
  • Proven supervisory/managerial skills in a kitchen setting

Skills/Administration:

  • Maintain organized, accurate, filing system for food orders etc.
  • Maintain  good records of food requests from KFS programs
  • Keep accurate records and statistics of program activities and volunteer participation
  • Prepare a monthly report on program activities
  • Organize weekly menu schedule for programs within the center
  • Menu planning according to Canada’s Food Guide i.e. reading labels/recipes
  • Participate in special events/catering services in the following week including the shopping, menu planning and delivery
  • conduct weekly kitchen maintenance inspection

Qualifications:

  • Native ancestry preferred with working knowledge of Aboriginal culture
  • Knowledge of Canada’ Food Guide for making healthy food choices
  • Knowledge of shopping and budgeting
  • Experience in coordinating a community kitchen an asset
  • Maintaining a high standard of kitchen cleanliness

Requirements:

  • Must consent to a Criminal Record Check and CRRA check
  • Culinary Arts Certificate/equivalent experience in a commercial kitchen setting
  • Food Safe Level 1 required (Level 11, 111 an asset)
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license with a reliable vehicle that is registered in British Columbia
